Typical Network Design

The majority of SMEs require a network and computing resources which meet the model shown in the diagram below.

This network is equipped with technologies which enable laptop users to work in the office,, or out on the road and at home.  All users have access to the data stored on the network, provided they are authorise to do so; in addition share this information with teleworkers ( those at home or on the road)

All the PCs have internet access via a firewall router which in turn is configured to allow teleworkers to access the office network by a VPN or Remote Desktop connection.

Data and Email stored on the server is copied to magnetic or optical media for security and in case of a disaster.
